Tyne (pronounced as in Clementine) was educated by the Sacre Coeur nuns, two of whom claimed to have educated Audrey Hepburn during the war. In the 1970's her school alone stood firm in enforcing hats, gloves, stockings suspenders and tunics below the knee. Her majors were elocution, deportment, setting an embassy dinner party, needlepoint and cordon bleu cooking, English Literature and grammar and in the hour spare each day a little bit of latin, French, maths and science. The books in the library had the pages which may soil the gentle mind stapled firmly together. Since then Tyne has saught a life less stapled.
After leaving Australia at 18 she travelled, married and on arriving back in Australia aged 19 she found herself 7 months pregnant. Five years later she had lived in Europe and Egypt, acquired another husband and two more children. in 1989 the family settled in London.
Her first book was a bestseller published in 1996 by Hodder Headline, it was a book about an Australian criminal barrister living in London. It was followed by 12 more over the years all translated into over a dozen languages. Two of her international bestsellers were optioned for film. Tyne has also written a four book series Calypso Chronicles set in an English boarding school loosely based on her daughter’s school St Mary’s Ascot and the nearby Eton College. This series has been optioned by Crossroad Films in LA and Tyne has recently finished the screenplay based on the books.
Articles: Tyne has written for Vogue UK, Australia, Ms USA, Elle UK, Marie Claire UK and most UK broadsheets. Numerous articles have appeared internationally about her and her unusual lifestyle. An article she wrote for Vogue UK, My two husbands, took her to LA, where she was executive producer, creator and co-writer of a television pilot of the same name. During her year in Hollywood she also wrote a pilot on the Sony Lot under Tony Danza’s company Katie Face Productions.
Television Appearances: Tyne has regularly appeared on television to give her view points on Etiquette, the class system, Unconventional Family units (based on her own marriage to two husbands) the benefits of single sex Boarding School life, hunting fur, the illicit diamond trade, lifestyle, love, fashion, sex, the sexes, How to design a lifestyle and that age old chestnut, men and why they do the things they do.
Film: Tyne starred in the film Against Nature (A Rébours) as the brothel madam alongside Adrian Dunbar (The Crying Game) and Adam Cordunor (Harry Potter).
Travel: While based in London she has spent a great deal of time in Egypt both in Cairo where she lived and the Sinai, as well as in New York and Los Angeles. It was while visiting Australia with her old friend Edward De Bono that Tyne decided to stay.
Personal Life: Tyne’s personal life is as glamorous as her books. Authors lead solitary lives by day but by night Tyne heads out to various private members clubs of London. She has been the party pal of Lindsey Lohan, Russell Brand, Sophie Dahl, Jamie Cullum, Ron and Jo Wood (pre Russian scandal) and to Liam Gallagher and Louis Walsh.
Charity: Tyne has been involved in the charity War Child which provides food for children living in war. She has contributed stories in the best selling Girls Night In and the Kids Night In series. Tyne also organized the glamorous Claridges Celebrity Ball in London. The Best of Girls Night In will be published this October by Penguin Australia.
Recently Tyne was in Laos working with the travelling library sailing down the Mekong delivering books to children in remote villages. She would like to do more to ensure books reach children in remote areas and the various refugee camps in which far too many children are spending their childhoods.
